01 - Spread softened butter evenly on one side of each bread slice using a knife or spatula.
02 - Place two bread slices buttered side down on a clean surface. Top each with two cheese slices. Cover with remaining bread slices, buttered side up.
03 - Preheat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat for 2 minutes.
04 - Place sandwiches in the heated pan. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes, pressing gently with a spatula, until golden brown.
05 - Turn sandwiches and cook the second side for 3 to 4 minutes until golden and cheese is completely melted.
06 - Transfer sandwiches to a cutting board. Let rest for 1 minute, then cut in halves or quarters. Serve immediately while hot.
